A Parrinello–Rahman approach to vortex lattices

چکیده
We present a framework for studying vortex lattice patterns and their structural transitions, using the Parrinello–Rahman (PR) method for molecular-dynamics (MD) simulations. Assuming an interaction between vortices derived from a Ginzburg–Landau field-theoretic context, we extract the ground-state of a “vortex gas” using the PR-MD technique and find it to be a triangular pattern. Other patterns are also obtained for special initial conditions. Generalizations of the technique, such as the inclusion of external potentials or excitation of quadrupolar modes, are also commented upon. 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Muon Spin Rotation and the Vortex Lattice in Superconductors
The magnetic field probability P (B) is calculated from Ginzburg-Landau theory for various lattices of vortex lines in type-II superconductors: Ideal triangular lattices, lattices with various shear strains and with a super lattice of vacancies, and lattices of short vortices in films whose magnetic field “mushrooms” near the surface.
متن کاملSuppressing monopoles and vortices : A possibly smoother approach to scaling ? Rajiv
Suppressing monopoles and vortices by introducing large chemical potentials for them in the Wilson action for the SU(2) lattice gauge theory, we study the nature of the deconfinement phase transition on N σ × Nτ lattices for Nτ = 4, 5, 6 and 8 and Nσ = 8–16. Using finite size scaling theory, we obtain ω ≡ γ/ν = 1.93± 0.03 for Nτ = 4, in excellent agreement with universality. Corresponding deter...
متن کاملMicroscopic elasticity of complex systems
Elasticity has the reputation of being a rather boring and un-physical subject. In fact, dealing with second (stress-strain) or fourth (elastic constants) rank tensor guarantees that the notations are in general rather heavy, and that the underlying physics is not easily captured. The elastic stress-strain behavior is, however, a very basic property of all solid materials, and one that is rathe...
متن کاملAsymmetric vortex solitons in nonlinear periodic lattices.
We reveal the existence of asymmetric vortex solitons in ideally symmetric periodic lattices and show how such nonlinear localized structures describing elementary circular flows can be analyzed systematically using the energy-balance relations. We present the examples of rhomboid, rectangular, and triangular vortex solitons on a square lattice and also describe novel coherent states where the ...
متن کاملExperiments on Linear and Nonlinear Localization of Optical Vortices in Optically Induced Photonic Lattices
We provide a brief overview on our recent experimental work on linear and nonlinear localization of singly charged vortices (SCVs) and doubly charged vortices (DCVs) in two-dimensional optically induced photonic lattices. In the nonlinear case, vortex propagation at the lattice surface as well as inside the uniform square-shaped photonic lattices is considered. It is shown that, apart from the ...
